In the city of Faisalabad, Punjab province in Pakistan, orders have recently been issued by the CPO Faisalabad that no police officer has the authority to ask any man or woman if they have a relationship with each other. What is the relationship with them, nor can he ask for a marriage certificate from them.
The orders were issued after an incident occurred recently when four policemen stopped a boy and a girl in a car and asked them to reveal their relationship to each other.
Immediately after that, he took them out of the car and blackmailed them after making videos of them and demanded money.
This is not the first incident of its kind. Such incidents happen every day in places across the country where the police stop the citizens and ask for evidence that a man has a relationship with a woman and a woman has a relationship with a man.
After this incident in Faisalabad, these two youths filed an application against these policemen in the police station and stated that they blackmailed us and made videos of us and asked us for money.
We had no money at that time. These four officials took us to a nearby ATM and asked us to withdraw money from there. After which we gave them twenty thousand rupees. Then after taking a bribe, they let us go.
Talking to The Time News Today about this matter, CPO Faisalabad Umar Saeed said that when he investigated the matter, it was found that these four police officers also made videos of these two boys and girls and I also took a bribe from them.'
Umar Saeed said that 'therefore, while taking departmental action, we suspended these four.'
Not only this, but when these police officials came to know that action was going to be taken against them, the petitioners said, "We have reconciled, so we withdraw our complaint."
The CPO said that this sudden change in his stand shows that he did it out of fear.
"I spoke to them myself and assured them that there will be no problem for both of you, but action must be taken against these officials."
Talking about the role of the police, Umar Saeed added that the job of the police is to prevent crimes and not to do moral policing. Apart from stopping the road and checking, this process is also seen by the police in hotels.
He said that if there is no illegal activity in a place, the police also have no authority to question any citizen or blackmail him.
Policemen should also know and citizens should also understand their rights and laws that no policeman has the right to ask you about your relationship. It is a matter of private life of every citizen and it is illegal to interfere in it.
