| PEMRA ban on Imran Khan discussed in social media: 'It was not true yesterday, it is not true even today' |
Shame on you. Islamabad IG and DIG, we will not leave you. We and the magistrate have to file a case against you. You should also get ready. We will take action against you too. You all should be ashamed.
After the threats given by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan to the police and female magistrate of the capital, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) under section 27 of the Ordinance of 2002 broadcast the speeches of former Prime Minister Imran Khan live on the national media. It has been banned.
In this regard, a detailed notification was issued by PEMRA late on Saturday night, in which it is said that Imran Khan is spreading hatred by making baseless allegations against state institutions in his provocative speeches and this kind of The speeches are a violation of Article 19.
Imran Khan, while talking about the alleged torture of his party leader Shehbaz Gul during a rally in Islamabad on Saturday night, threatened the capital's police and magistrate to file a case against him.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced to challenge this order of Pemra in the court as unconstitutional. PTI leader Asad Umar says that the ban on telecasting Imran Khan's speeches is another attempt to find an administrative solution to a political problem.
Which politicians' speeches were banned in the past?
It should be noted that this is not the first time that PEMRA has banned the broadcasting of a politician's speeches. After Altaf Hussain and Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Imran Khan is the fifth political leader to be banned by PEMRA.
Earlier, during Imran Khan's tenure (2020), PEMRA had banned the broadcast of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's speech.
Acting on the request made by the lawyer Muhammad Azhar Siddique, PEMRA banned the broadcasting of Nawaz Sharif's speeches.
Apart from this, a ban has been imposed on broadcasting the speeches of PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and interviews of PPP leader Asad Zardari.
During Nawaz Sharif's tenure (2016) too, the Lahore High Court banned the broadcasting of Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain's speeches on the charge of anti-state speech.
"There is no benefit to such a ban"
While some people in Pakistan are calling this ban a violation of freedom of expression, others also believe that such a ban is useless in the age of social media.
Speaking to the BBC, senior journalist and analyst Mazhar Abbas said that in the age of information technology, in which everything from electronic media to social media and print media is present, any kind of restrictions are effective. Do not live.
Giving examples of bans on the speeches of MQM leader Altaf Hussain, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the past, he says that the effects of these bans in Pakistan have been negative, but he says that television channels must make a mechanism of its own so that some such things do not go and some channels have installed a delay system which can be further improved but banning a channel or a politician is a restriction on freedom of expression.
They say that there could have been an objection to Imran Khan's speech, Pemra could have asked the channels to extend the delay system a little in Imran Khan's speech, and take care of such and such things, but if the speech was banned, you If you put it, you can't ban it on social media, people will follow on social media and the number of followers will increase.
Mazhar Abbas says that such actions reflect the authoritarian thinking in our country, it is surprising that "when parties are in opposition, they are champions of freedom of expression and consider criticism as positive, but when When they come to the government, they adopt the attitude of the rulers and then they do not like criticism, only praise.'
"Since the mindset has not changed yet, be it Imran Khan, Sharif or any other party, they have the same approach and no ruler has ensured freedom of expression till date."

Reaction on social media: 'It wasn't true yesterday and it's not true today'
A user writes: It's not 1990 when there were no channels except PTV. Today, there are more than 100,000 YouTube channels and five major social apps, and 80 percent of the country's population are social media users.
The peace minister believes that the ban on Imran Khan's speeches is actually a ban on freedom of expression. He writes that it has been wrong for everyone here for decades.
On the other hand, some people are reminding Tehreek-e-Insaaf of the ban on Nawaz Sharif's speech during his own government.
Attaullah wrote, "If Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and even Zardari's interview can be stopped from airing and their speech can be banned, why not Imran?" If there is no doomsday at that time, then the doomsday will not come. However, the rest of this behavior was not correct yesterday, nor is it correct today.
Shoaib Khan wrote that "two years ago during the Khan era, when Pemra imposed a ban that Nawaz Sharif's speech could not be seen or commented on, the movement of justice was very happy, now Khan Why is there so much grief over the ban on only showing live on the speeches of?'
