History of target killings and riots in Kurram
Two months ago in the month of June, a young Zeeshan Haider was shot dead near Sadar Bazar. Apart from this, there have been incidents of target killing before this incident.
Para Chinnar and other areas in Karam district have been experiencing incidents of communal violence and in the past the tension had reached such an extent that people used to travel under the protection of security forces.
It should be noted that due to the severe clashes in Karam Agency in November 2077, there were large-scale loss of life and property. As a result of these riots, the parties had set fire to more than fifty villages of each other, while hundreds of people were forcibly evicted from their respective areas. Displaced persons continue to take shelter in other areas. According to an estimate, around three thousand people were killed in these clashes.
As a result of the fight, the parties had blocked the Talpara Chinar highway for each other at different places in their respective areas. Due to this closure, the Shia and Sunni tribes faced severe difficulties. Later, convoys continued to pass through Para Chinar under the protection of security forces, but they were also attacked several times and many people were killed, while convoys going through Afghanistan were also targeted several times. .When the road closure intensified, people continued to travel from Para Chinar to Peshawar in private and government helicopters and planes for some time.
After that, in 2011, local elders tried to establish peace, which succeeded. In the tribal area of Pakistan's Kurram Agency, all the roads in the area, which had been closed for nearly four years, were opened for the first time to normal traffic due to the efforts of a joint peace jirga of the Shia and Sunni tribes.
This decision was celebrated throughout the agency with the opposing tribes congratulating each other by garlanding each other while the Shia Sunni Bhai Bhai slogans were also raised.
For the first time after the peace agreement, a peace convoy consisting of about 50 to 60 vehicles along with the tribal jirga and local officials reached Para Chinar from Peshawar by road.
The convoy consisted of thousands of people, most of whom were trapped in Peshawar and other areas due to road closures for the past three to four years.
