| Arrival in Brazil of the preserved heart of the emperor who liberated Brazil 189 years ago |
On the occasion of 200 years of independence from Portugal, the preserved heart of the first emperor of Brazil, Dom Pedro I, has reached Brazil from Portugal. This heart has been preserved with the help of medicines for the last 189 years.
The heart of Emperor Dom Pedro I is kept in a golden flask and brought to Brazil by a military plane. The heart will be decorated with military honors before being put on public display.
September 7 marks the 200th anniversary of Brazil's independence. After the Independence Day program was completed, King Pedro I's heart would be sent back to Portugal.
Earlier, Portuguese authorities had approved the transfer of the heart from the coastal city of Porto to Brazil. After that, a plane of the Brazilian Air Force took him to Brazil. Porto Mayor Rui Moreira is also among those who went there with this convoy from Portugal. He said that after showing the Brazilian citizens, this heart will be taken to Portugal again.
Welcome as head of state
Brazil's foreign minister's chief protocol officer Alan Coelho-Celos said: "This heart will be welcomed as head of state." He will be honored as if the Emperor Dom Pedro I were still alive among us.'
A guard of honor and full military honors will be given along with a gun salute for this warm welcome.
"They will be welcomed by the national anthem and songs of independence, the music of which coincidentally was composed by Dom Pedro I himself," Silos said. Apart from being an emperor, he was also a good musician.
Dom Pedro was born in 1798 into the royal family of Portugal, which at the time also occupied Brazil. His family fled from Portugal to his colony of Brazil to escape Napoleon's army.
Later in 1821, Dom Pedro's father, King John VI, returned to Portugal, but left his son there and installed him as representative ruler of Brazil.
However, just one year later, this young representative ruler went against the wishes of Portugal's parliament and declared Brazil's independence. In addition, he refused to obey Portugal's order to return to his country. On September 7, 1822, he declared the independence of Brazil. He was then crowned Emperor of Brazil as Dom Pedro I.
Why is there a conflict of heart?
He later returned to Portugal to claim the throne of Portugal for his daughter and died there of tuberculosis. On his deathbed, he said that after death, his heart should be removed from his body and taken to the city of Porto. His heart was then placed in a church in Porto.
In 1972, on the 150th anniversary of Brazil's independence, his body was flown to Brazil, from where it was transferred to São Paulo. He was kept in a cell in Sao Paulo.
The issue of taking Pedro I's heart to Brazil has also created controversy. This is due to the issue of his arrival date and election.
Some researchers have also questioned the emperor's arrival here at that time. Jair Bolsonaro is once again running for president. All this is happening at a time when Bolsonaro's supporters are going to protest across Brazil on September 7.
The Independence Day rallies are expected to include attacks on Supreme Court judges and the electoral system.
Bolsonaro has raised questions about the country's electoral process, with fears that the Election Commission will not recognize the results if Bolsonaro loses the election.
